I went to my brother’s G.E.D graduation ceremony, but it wasn’t just the G.E.D grads receiving their diplomas, it was a mix of the G.E.D graduates and a hand full of immigrants receiving their citizenship. I have forgotten their names and I wish I could remember, but I took a few pictures of these two beautiful women because i didn’t want to forget them, one Korean and the other Russian. they consoled each other during the whole ceremony. They stood at the pedestal and told their stories of struggle and heart ache, which were really extremely sad. I felt completely numb for them but also I had a slightly warm feeling in my heart for them. they had to leave their kin behind, and overcome so many obstacles. You could just feel this bond between them that had formed bringing them closer than friends, but I can only think that maybe the only right words would be to say is all of this made them soldiers in this battle for freedom, and this citizenship they received that day.
